I have a platy fry but it hasnt been eating much crushed up flakes. I bought new bulb plants and it included onion plants. I removed the outer layer of the onion and scraps flew into the water. The fry went into a feeding frenzy. Loves em. This is great. I saved the skin and its ready to be ripped and put in the water. It is very nutritious because bulb plants store all their nutrients in the bulb, thats why onions, carrots and turnips are so tasteful! So happy

Onions are toxic to a lot of animals... are you totaly sure they're OK for Fish? I've nerver heard of anyone feeding onoins to them. Mind you, I've never heard of Fish loving them so much either! : /

My dog loves grapes but they are toxic to dogs. I've never heard of feeding onions to fish and personally I wouldn't do it

personaly i woulnt do this because if it stays in the water it can make the water toxic

Oh god, i looked it up but it doesnt say fish. It says it takes 3 to 4 days to set in. I guess we'll see. I dont think its bad for fish because onion plants are commonly sold as aquarium plants

The outer skin of a plant may well contain lots of micro-organisms that tiny fry will gladly feed on. Don't let the resource dry out on you, it will become almost worthless to those same fry.
Blue Dragon, the plants we call onions in an aquarium are called that because they slightly resemble an onion but they are not really what we think of as onions.

Oh, right. Thanks OldMan. So whats the plant really then? I don't think I ever must have came across them before.

I have never taken a real interest in those plants. I did a quick search and found this Crinum thaianum as a correct name along with this Zephyranthes candida if you happen to have the ones that look more like french onions (scallions). Since I have never grown either one, I can't help much more than that.
