Disaster

Thanks Wilder :)

Sorry if I've hijacked the thread a bit by posting my picture. It's just that I feel so passionately about these beautiful fish. So many meet a sad ending, and most of the time it can easily be avoided.

Anyway Gankutsuou I hope you don't lose any more fish, fingers crossed for you m8 :)

i agree, water is THE most importaint aspect for discus, but we need to keep in mind we are keepers of both water and discus IMO.

One of My eels was acting weird, but is staying upright for now.

If you are keeping eels then they shouldn't be treated with anything copper based and if they are it should only be at a diluted amount, between one third to half at the very most. Typically I treat my eels by keeping them in very slight brackish conditions until some sign of improvment is exhibited, failing this then diluted, copper based meds is a viable alternative I sometimes use in extreme cases. Perhaps try making a post in oddballs for some more responses.

I think both my eels are fine, but the one that has never ever actually gone digging is missing now... so I'm not so sure...

And the filter stopped again last night, but conditions are about the same. I'm guessing it stopped early morning before I woke... I'm thinking of buying a new filter. I should be getting one that does 5x total GPH anyways instead of 3.8 x total GPH.

Then I can puit the still mature media in that one and go from there.

And I did NOT treat my eels with tonic salt yet, and don;'t plan to, as I read else where that also....

But there are places saying that salt has no proven effect, negitive or positive, at all on spiney eels. But It has negative effects on cats, such as my syno, false flying fox(not really a cat, but has attributes of one), and my candy stripe pleco.

I know this information is too late now, but for future reference, twig catfish are extremely delicate and do not tolerate tank changes well. Unless you know your tank parameters inside out and know that your tank is well established - can be forgiving with changes - and will remain rock solid.

Good luck with the new filter :good:

Good news!

I have a new filter (power one) that does 5.25x my Total GPH. And it has 2 more inserts besides carbon, so I'm not completly without filtration as I medicate. I have a my quarinteen on standby as I have kicked it up to 85, and it should clear everything up in about 1-2 days. :good:

That great, was just going to say that the sand might of ruined the impellar.
Dpn't forget to use old mature sponges.
