Over the last 2 weeks I have had several Rummy Nose Tetra's disappear over night. I did have pictus cats in the tank, but they have been moved to another home after one rummy went missing as I assumed it was them eating them.

The other tankmates include

4x Silver Angels
4x Red Line Torpedo Barbs
1x Common Plec
6x Rummy Nose Tetras (5 this morning)

Could it be the angels eating them?

How long have you had them ?
Have you recently checked your water stats ?

My Pictus certainly ate some of the smaller rummy's I had but if your's isn't in there anymore, there has to be another reason.

I had 3 left when i removed the pictus. The following day there where only 2, and Ive no idea where themissing one went. I bought 5 more making 7, but one died in the night leaving 6. This morning there is only 5 with no dead body to be seen.

I check my water stats every 3days, currently they are
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 15
pH = 7

Even if they are dying from another cause, why cant I find the dead fish?

Ive checked everywhere

The angels have got quite big, but there mouths seem too small to fit a rummy nose in.

Is it just tetra's they eat, or any fish tetra size? eg. danios.

How long have you had the Rummy noses ? If they died fairly shortly after buying them, it could just be that they didn't adjust well to your water conditions and sebsequently died. How large is your common plec ? It's also possibly that he ate the bodies.
I generally check my fish morning and night. But if a fish died overnight, it's fairly unlikely that I'll never see a corpse as no doubt my cats and other fish would have eaten it overnight (obviously talking of small bodied fish here - not other large catfish etc.).

They died/went mising within a couple of days of purchase, so that sounds like a really good possibility, although I always thought plecs where vegetarian, how wrong was I.
My plecs about 6" long.

I should look into why they died. Possible lack of oxygen as my fish sometimes swim to the surface as if getting air.

Thanks for the help

Rummy noses "can" be quite fragile in differing water conditions - which leads me to think they died because of that. And as your plec is 6" I'm almost certain he took care of the little bodies :nod:
