I've got a Milwakee digital Ph meter with one electrode (sm101). If I make sure the electrode is thoroughly cleaned prior to use so there is no storage or other solution residue, can I dip it directly into the tank or is it only safe for testing water samples? I've been testing water samples so far to be on the safe side.

Also I need to get some more calibration solution...supposed to use 10.01, but does it matter what exact solution I use on the high end as long as it has 2 decimal places of accuracy?

I have pinpoint's pH monitor. My probe is in my middle chamber with continual readings. I check periodically with pH 10.01 and 7.01. SH

i'm not sure if you can use others, it will usually tell you in the instructions, but all the different calibration fluids are easy to pick up off ebay for a few quid.

The instructions are very vague, so I guess I'll go for 10.01 and be safe. I take it that it's ok to test putting the electrode right in the tank then?

you need to use 2 calibration fluids, use 10 and 7, or what ever make of fluids you can get close to them (it does not matter who manufactures them)
i have the pinpoint meter and the probe is constantly in my tank.

i dip ours straight into the tank... havent calibrated it yet though... the only tank that fluctuates is the planted - the other are at approx 7.4 all the time. so i dip the digital in them and see what it says... - oh 7.4 that'll do me ;)
