Different techniques?

Hi guys.
Have you ever seen malawi cichlids mate before? It's kinda weird.
A couple of months ago I saw my yellow labs doing it. The male was shaking his body quite violently and the female looked as if she was sucking him off! I was really shocked but my boyfriend said it was normal and all cichlids do it.
But it gets even wierder. My boyfriend bought me some mabumas or something? anyway, I don't really like them much coz they're too aggressive, but in the morning when I got out of bed one of them was almost thrusting a rock in a jeking movement, it was kinda embarassing when I showed my boyfriend. Then the other fish starts mouthing the rock, and then she sucked his anal fin into her mouth. I nearly seperated them coz I thought they were hurting each other. But now I've put them into seperate floating boxes for guppys, should I do this or not, becoz I don't want the female having babies in the main tank.

Well if you have male and female fish they do what comes naturally! If you don't want baby fish then just keep a single sex. Separating them into guppy boxes is not a good idea, way too small for them and they will die from lack of oxygen. Better to take the ones you don't want back to the lfs. By the way, how big is your tank? Mbuna cichlids get large and some need 55g or more.

Um, hi there .
Mbuna is just a generalised term for cichlids and there are many types as far as i know and it will be the same for yours- you need to find out what type it is or at least describe its size/length in inchs and colors.
Do you know how many gallons/litres the tank holds or roughly what size it is at least? How long has the tank been set up for and how many fish has is got and what types?

mbuna dont need 55G, it depends on what type they have, 30G + some only get to 3-4 inches.
