I was feeding my fish and I noticed this little brown thing gripping onto the side of the tank. I thought it was debris at first but then it swam a little bit. I then noticed 2 more in the tank hanging on to the side of the tank. They kind of look like small tadpoles but I don't have any frogs. Are they fry, they are really small. Here's the best pic I could get of one of them....

Probably a swordtail fry. Are either (or both) of your swordtails female?

Nope, they are both males. Both have the long sword tails. The females don't have the swords right? Since they're both males, what else could it be. Could it be Danio or tetra fry?

Tetras I seriously doubt... they are notoriously difficult to breed even when you're really trying. Danio fry is possible... how big is it? Usually a newborn livebearer fry is at least 5mm long. (But if your swordtails are males it's probably not one.)

They are alot smaller then that, they're less then 1mm.

HaHa Matt! Glad you're back to entertain us! Shall be interesting to hear this one out!

ps. Hey, you better watch out, our Panthers looked pretty good against the Bucs Mon. night.

As they are 'unknown' it might be a good idea to try and put them into a breeding trap.
If it's something nasty then it's not in the main tank, if it's some fry then they are safe :)
(and no, I haven't seen the picture as it is blocked from here :) )

ya can not see anything in the pic but i agree i would put them in a breeding trap just in case good or bad

good luck

I can see the picture but can't see anything except what looks like a little smudge sorry.

They actually look like little glow light tetra fry after looking more closely at them! I went to my lfs and picked up a 3-way breeder (Only thing they had). I came home and managed to get 2 of the ones I found into the breeder but they got out of the side since there are tiny holes. It's one of those plastic ones with the tiny openings on the side.

Now I can't find them but I guess I'm gonna have to find one with like a net that goes inside of the plastic part so they can't get out. Would something like this work you think:

i've got my tiny minnow fry in a net breeder and they have been fine
my minnow fry were about 1-2 mm if that when they were hatched

thats the net i've got in the link you posted

swordtail fry are quite recognisable as fish fry and can swim freely , minnow , tetra and danio fry arent they hang on the sides of the tank for a couple of days then become free swimming

Thanks a lot for the pics and information! After seeing those pics, I definitely have Danio fry. They got out of the breeder though so hopefully I can find them again and I'll have to put them in something else until that other net breeder comes.

danios are most likely but if you've bred tetras we'll just go ahead and move you straight to -Professional- status :D

lol thanks WD! After seeing the pics, I have Danio fry. I can't find them now though and I hope they weren't eaten by the other fish :(

And the Panthers did look pretty good on Monday Night. I had the Bucs favored to win that game. We'll see how they finish though!

Also Sarah,

How do I know if my Danio's are pregnant? I mean a few do look like they have biger bellys but until now I never really thought much about it. Any indications on how I should know for sure if one is expecting?
