Did my first tests today

I have amonia reading 0.25ppm on my tank. I am cycling with fish, 6 platies and my tank is 36"X12"X15" .

It is the second day since i put the fish in

Have you any other test kits. It's good to know the Nitrate and Nitrite readings when the tank is cycling :0

Yes I have a NitrIte test kit but don't know when to start using it as I assume it will take a few days for ammonia to be converted to nitrIte.

I'd give it a go now to see if theres anything happening.

Ok following your advice here are my results:

I got the 6 platies on the 16/01

Ammonia on 18/01 0.25


Ammonia on 20/01 0.25 - 0.5 (in between)
NitrIte on 20/01 0 - 0.25 (also in between)

I hope this is ok!

Hi I did some more tests today on 23/01/02

My results are:

Ammonia 0.5ppm
NitrIte 0-0.25ppm

This is exactly one week since I got the fish which are 6 platies.

Is this ok?

There with acceptable readings. So yeah there fine.

I'd check your pH so you know how toxic your ammonia is. It should be fine though.

Ammonia 0.5ppm
NitrIte 0.25ppm

Onto the second stage! yey!

PS. my 'platies' are fine check in breeding ritual forum cause I want to check they really are platies!!

Ok I did a NitrIte test on 27/01

NitrIte =0.5ppm

Today (31/01)

Amm = 0 !!!
NitrIte = 0.25 ppm!!

I added the fish in on the 16/01.

The end of the cycle is near!! right guys?
