:-( well today i went to the lfs with my mom, they usually have pretty good fish, adn it looked liek they just got a new shipment of bettas, so naturally i was loking through all of them. They were in pretty good shape...excpet for this one little guy :(

he must have been suffering from a bad bad case of finrto becuase he had virtually no tail left, and no anal fins either. Just his dorsal and pectorals :( i wanted to buy the little guy and maybe give him a chance at my house...but i didn't :( i doubt my mom would approve of me buying a near-dead betta

i might be giong back there tomorrow...i wonder if i should get the iltlte guy if he's still there :( what do you guys think? i'm not trying ot play doctor here, but...*sigh* you had to be there and see the poor little guy  it breaks my heart

Definitely feel ya CC. That's how I ended up with a finrot infested SBD betta... now he only has SBD.

 yeah i just feel bad for leaving him now...he looked liek he really needed a home, even if it's just one for him to die in :-(

DON'T DO IT! You'll only get attached as you try and probably fail to nurse it back to health. Tell the shop (in fact if they're any good they'll know) how ill it is and they will enthanise it quickly and painlessly - can't be a nice life without tail/fins.

Sometimes it's kinder this way, although always horrible to know a fish died.

they wont kill it.. i highly doubt it.. theyre all about making money..

im sure they know about it anyways..

its the stores fault for ordering from a crappy supplier (mine does it too)

m0st the bettas we get are diseased.. its pretty sad.. but considering they cost mere pennies to buy i guess they dont care

they are a chain store on top fo that, they dont' speicalize in fish, and i doubt they'd care enough for it to use any medication on him at all  obviously they dont really give 2 cents becuase he woudlnt' have had such advacned fin rot to start with.

Had i taken him of he'd be in a 1g by himself right now wtih salt and melafx and daily water changes :(

my friend also says that i shouldnt' do it..he asid i have so amny already and it's "jsut a fish"...there's thousands more out there anyways

is there anyone that thinks i should try? or am i just being stupid

I think you should try if you want. I have brought home 2 bettas with nearly no fins, and both grew back in time. You might be right, this one might be on its last legs, but maybe a comfy home to die in and shot at living is better than nothing. I know you can't bring them all home, but if one touches your heart, I think it's worth a try. You already know what the worst case scenario is, so prepare yourself for that, and then do your best not to let it happen!

i can't say that i blame you for feeling that way. i think i would of felt the same way. i've had quite a few rescue fish. some have made it, some didn't. the ones that didn't, atleast they passed on with someone caring about them.

fourplayfishy: it was the pjs center in scaboroguh town

thanks for the understanding semp, sometimes my friends just dont' undersatnd why i give so mcuh crap about fish, afterall, it's "just a fish" and there's "so many of them who cares" :-(

It wouldn't be much more effort for me to change one more container for the ilttle guy when i do my water changes. I know if i ever sell my bettas, id' watn them to go to a good home too (if they end up in petstores) -_-

i just dont' undersatnd why my friend tells met hat i shouldnt' do it just becuase i have so many already  is there a law saying you can't have over 10 bettas ors omething?

Awww Cutecotton. I think you should follow your heart on this one if your budget and time allows for it. I think it's a wonderful thing to do and maybe it's an opportunity the betta will have to make a miracle recovery being well loved and cared for. Either way it would be much more comfortable with you caring for it.

You are a sweetheart! :)

point out its bad condition and offer to take it off their hands as it'll die anyway...

then save the poor little bugger :D

thanks fo rall the input guys

i've made up my mind, i'm going to take him off if he's still there tomorrow. If i leave him, he's gonig to die for sure, if i take him home, he might die, or he might live. At least he'll have a chance.

I hope the little guy makes it until tomrrow though :(..
