I've finally gotten enough money to buy most of the equipment for my tank. It will be 29g, reef, no skimmer or sump (At least not right away). I've decided I WILL have a quarantine tank. Hence the extra stuff. So... am I forgetting anything? Or do I have too much? I know I won't need it all right away, but it's easier to get most of it now than convincing my mom to let me get more later.

Aquaclear 20 (for QT)
Net
Gloves
Thermometer
Stress Coat (I use it in freshwater, I guess it won't hurt SW fish, right?)
Algae Scraper
Ammonia Alert (for QT)
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Test Kit
Maxijet 400 (two of these, one for mixing salt, one for QT)
maxijet 1200 (two for main tank)
Aragamax 30lbs
Special Grade reef sand 40lbs (planning on a jawfish, half of the tank will be pretty deep with special grade, the rest will be the fine stuff)
Timer
Refractometer
ZooPlex Invertebrate Food
Hydor Flo Rotating deflector
Cell-Pore BioMedia (for QT)
Instant Ocean salt (160g)
Satellite Compact Fluorescent Fixtures Dual 30"
Stealth 25w heater (two of them, one for QT, one for mixing salt)
stealth 100w heater (main tank)
Pure-Flo II RO Units 50 gpd 3-stage
Deionization Canister Add-On (How important in the DI part?)
GFCI
Calcium Test kit

phew... long list.

For fish, I'm still not sure, I have plenty of time to decide, but I'm thinking a pair of clowns, a jawfish, and maybe a flame angel or goby/blenny. Lots of inverts.
Planning on 35lbs of LR. Maybe a little more..... so... how does it sound?

Sounds pretty good. Couple thoughts, add alkalinity test kit if you want to get into calcium testing. And I'd ditch the maxi 1200s and use a propeller style powerhead (Tunze, Seio, Hydor Koralia)

Cool, thanks Ski. Problem is, I wanted two powerheadds (in case one breaks or something...) and one seio is enough flow, two is probably too much, and tunze are expensive. Hydor Koralias, from what I've read, are big, and like you said in a post a while ago, they're new. For all I know, they could break in six months. I might get them, though, 'cause they look pretty neat. :shifty:

EDIT: Why do I want a propeller kind?

Because the propeller type really put out a nice diffuse flow. Remember, in nature, thousands of gallons of water are flowing and surging back and forth constantly. You dont have this thin point-flowpushing at small spots on the reef. A propeller type pump pushes lots of water simultaneously. It doesn't put out the un-natural point-flow that most centrifugal pump style powerheads do.

Furthermore, the propeller models are WAY more electrically efficient and will save you money longterm.

Also remember, I'm not sure about Tunzes, but I know the Seio powerheads can be turned down to produe less flowrate than their max.

Oh, I didn't know that Seios could be turned down. I guess I'll get two of them. It's more expensive, though.

Okay well I decided to get one seio. Stuff should get here in a week or two. :yahoo: I still don't have the tank yet, though, or the stand  I might get it this weekend.

EDIT:

It was funny, I went to chose the shipping and it was like:

Standard shipping: 17.99
Expedited: 148.69
FedEx Two Day: 236.88
FedEx Overnight: 401.87

:D ^_^

Can I make a suggestion? Get a little maxijet 400 or a minijet or something and hide it behind your LR. That way if your Seio fails, you might at least have minimal water flow in the tank to keep it oxygenated and prevent a crash. Just thinking redundancy here.

'Kay. I guess seios aren't too prone to breaking, but it can't hurt.

You're correct, they're very reliable but you know what will happen if you don't have redundancy right...? Murphy will come visit

Okay, I'm bringing this back up 'cause I have another question. I got a 37g tank, 30"x12"x22". So Now I need another powerhead. Should I just get a maxijet like ski suggested or should I get another SEIO?

u cud get a maxi jet .... and then get a hydor flo of ebay for like 6.95 .... may work out cheaper that way .... im not sure how much seios retail at though -_-

Another seio, as long as the corals you plan on getting won't mind the extra flow. If the corals you plan on getting like moderate to high flow seio unless you can turn them both down enough, that is if your getting corals which I assume you are.

SEIOs are expensive, so are hydor koralias. those were the two i was thinking of getting. But the cost isn't good thing and the maxijets are so much cheaper...... It's tough to decide. But would two seios (the smallest ones) be too much flow?'

atm you beat me to it.

You will have about 33x gph at the high settings, I don't know how low you can turn it down but if your not running a skimmer I would think more flow the better. I have almost 30x in my tank with just powerheads plus more with HOB filter and I have no problems so I think you will be fine. I wouldn't worry about the cost, it it's better for you than you want to buy it, best to have the best than not and like ski said they'll save you money on electricity which is a plus.
