I've just lost my 4th diamond tetra in as many months. Symptoms are always the same - swimming at an angle, getting worse until turning in circles. I'm assuming this is swim bladder showing as a symptom. I've euthanised two and let two die naturally, I'm not sure which way was kindest :(

Water stats are always fine on testing after a death (0,0,10-20) and there are no signs of anything being wrong until the fish starts to look wonky and dies within a couple of hours.

This last one has died in the big tank, whereas the other 3 died in my (now closed down) 160l. So it's not directly related to the tank. It's also not affecting my other fish. In fact these 4 are the only fish I've lost this year, and most of my current fish (in sig) I bought in December or January, and all appear to be thriving. It's just these diamonds...

I'm reluctant to use any meds in the tank as I don't want to compromise the health of the others, and am always sceptical about the efficacy of fish meds anyway, so I'm not sure what action I can take or what answers I'm looking for.

Does anyone know if diamonds are particularly prone to anything? I've had 10 of these since end December and 3 in January, now down to 9 in total.

Hi!

I'm a new member but we had diamond tetra too. as I read your post I was wondering did you buy those diamonds from same place? Maybe that was the issue...Yes, you shouldn't use meds in your large tank, but it's really worth it to invest in the a 2.5 Gallon hospital tank I think.
I wish you the best to figure it out asap, diamond tetras are beautiful!!
