I found this site on whim while trying to look for help so I'm posting on the forum.

Can anyone tell me what is this white stuff growing on my fish? Looks like the ich but it's so severe. They won't even eat and just hide in the corner.

I've done everything I can like changing the water and adding salt but 1 even died. They've been with me for 3 years, I talked to the people at the aquarium I bought them from, they were unwilling to help. I'm so heartbroken, all I can do is slowly watch the remainder die.

You are right in thinking its not ich, it looks like either fungus or a parasite has caused the fish to produce too much body slime. It also looks like fin rot, which could be where the problem started.

Could you please give us some more information on the tank and your maintenance schedule?
Things like

Tank Size and tank volume

Frequency of water changes

How much (roughly is changed eg 50% 25%) is changed

Do you clean the filter in dechlorinated water?

Do you refill the tank with declorinated water?

What treatments aside from salt have you tried?

And water temperature.

Anything new added to the tank? Like new live plants, natural timber?

Goldfish although often sold as tropical prefer cooler water than most tropical fish, they are heavy oxygen users and warm water doesn't carry much oxygen.
