Depressed Fish

our male discus fish had his partner die. they live in a community tank with many other breeds of fish. Since she died he has not eaten. ( for two weeks now) He sits at the bottom of the tank and does not respond to anything not even us. He used to be the first one to the glass when we came home or were just looking at them. He has started going sideways and we decided to force feed him. ( very carefully!!)Has anyone heard of depressed fish before giving up on life after the death of a partner?

we put him in a seperate bowl and used a dropper to put worms in his mouth.

our fish store does not have any more and pet smart does not even carry them.

I can only say from my own exsperience, My oscar pair one died for my own fault<dropped tank temp from 26c to 10c in minutes from a large waterchange,then from that day on the other did not eat and gave up, then two months later also died...It was seriously like watching someone or something that had someone or something close to it die....My neighbour an old lady died about 10years ago,again from that day her dog did not do anything again or ate...

i had the same thing happen to my discus, so i ordered a new one on line when it came i wasnt too impressed it had some deformetys bt it made my original one very happy!!! within minutes of puttig the new arrival in the tank my discus was responsive and welcomed the new guy with open fins lol!!!

Very sorry to hear that, but people are like fish in that respect, we partner for life. Sometimes it doesn't work out and we lose the most important aspect of our lives, making life worthless.
