Hi i've recently moved my betta into my 60L tank from a 16L and added some corys and soon will be putting some neon tetras in. The problem is that since adding the corys my betta is depressed and just sitting on the bottom and hiding. How can i cheer him up other than removing the other fish?
Thanks

Give him lots of plants to rest on. Bettas like to rest quite a lot of the time and if he has some plants to hide behind and rest on it might make it slightly easier for him. They normally take a little while to adjust to the tank as it's a completly new area and they are a bit 'scared' at first. If that makes any sense ;) Hope it helps.

i take it his new home is cycled? he's probably just sulking, if you see nothing visually wrong with him, try giving him a few days see if he picks up :good:

Hi yeah good idea with the plants :good: when he was in this new tank he was by him self for a week and looked very happy.

Yeah its cycled ok. He's been sulking for 2 weeks now  Do you think adding the tetras will help like with some cichlids (show that the environment is safe)?
Thank you for the help

if he only started sulking once you added the cories, maybe he's 1 of those that prefer to be kept alone. More plants/caves general hidy holes is worth trying though :good:

He used to be in my full community set up for about 4 months he didn't sulk just a bit of aggression so i put him on his own for a good few months but the tank was just a little bit small so i thought he would be better in a larger tank.
Cheers :good:

Just watch out when putting in any cichlids, they can be a bit aggressive and may cause a few problems with bettas (this isn't always the case though). Seeming as you had him in a community set up before I'm a bit surprised if he would carry on sulking if you put other fish in. Just give him time to settle, add a few resting places in and see how you get on with adding other fish. If you still have problems within a few weeks (making a total of a month) then maybe he would prefer a smaller space. My opinion is that he is still getting use to the tank and hopefully he should be fine. :good:
