One day I'll be looking to buy these off greenline, what are their needs to survive?

Thanks.

Look them up on the tropica website old bean.... (which is where Greenline get them from I think).

Andy

Ok I looked and found some exact matches, low light which is good for me.
Some almost matches which are low light good for me.
And some no matches at all.

Low light I guess is 1WPG?

Generally I'd say so, yes. Less that 1.5WPG.

BUT

Remember, the smaller your tank, higher the WPG to 'match' that of a larger tank... What I mean is that 1WPG for a small tank is not consider the same level of lighting for a Medium sized tank or larger which also has 1 WPG. Confusing I know.... so to get 1WPG equivalent for a small tank, use 1.5WPG...

Also, deep tanks need higher lighting... blah blah I know!

I had this bunch from Greenline a while back. I've got a Juwel Rio 240 with about 1.5 WPG and reflectors, at the time I had an inert substrate and used one of the pro plant grow bags from Greenline to fertilise the water column. Most of the plants did pretty well in the set up. The foreground stuff was a bit harder to grow and I ripped it out in the end. Elodea Densa is really easy to grow otherwise known as Egeria - very fast growing and good for eating up nitrates in the water. Creeping Jenny is quite a rampant midground plant and the Myacca was a bit of a disaster, I think it needs a fair bit more light.

It's a good selection at a good price and allows you to see what will work for you but if you don't already have them I would recommend reflectors for your bulbs and replacing the lights about once a year. Some of the plants are heavy root feeders especially Vallis and the crypts so some kind of nutritious substrate is important too. CO2 would help too but I don't know much about this.

I have a load of pictures of these plants in my planted journal, linked in my sig.

Cheers, Andy.

Yeah I'm going to use Tetra Plant Substrate under sand. I have a white reflector but I'll replace it with a silver one. I might get CO2 and ferts depending on what I can afford. The tank will be quite heavily stocked so the plants may be good without much else added. If I got DIY CO2 I could perhaps do Low EI but I'm not sure how low it is.

hi luke
you should use Eco Compleat, it looks nice and does welll with the plants. subterainian ferts are usualy good with 2-3" of them and sosme coourse gravel (like normal gravel of 1") to hold them in place then the sand on top.
the CO2 system i have if good aslong as you DIY it, through the sachets away they failed misrebly. and i think you will have a nice tank, with lots of plants. but i think you need to upgrade your lighting if posable, if you can't then don't worry.
c'ya at school, shang hi

1 bag of eco complete wouldn't make my susbtrate very deep. For the same price I could get that Tetra Substrate and black sand, it'd give more height.

maby, but my tank got 3" from 3 bags, maby use 2, your plants will thank you
if you don't want to use Eco compleat then that okay, im not forcing you *little voice* "do it, you know you want to" *voice ends*
have fun plants though, shang hi :good:

Your tank = 80x40cm = 3200cm2 / 3 = 1067cm2 raised to 3inches is one bag.

My tank = 60x30 = 1800cm2, I'd need 2 bags for 3inches, but I could probably get like 1.5-2inch with 1 bag.

I suppose I could get it, and if it's not tall enough stick my gravel under it.

yay, you can easly put your gravel on top to make the 3" but you can do what you want to.

I don't want gravel on top, underneath. I'll just go with the tetra substrate It's meant to be quite good. You only need 1cm depth of it but I think I'll get like 1.2/.3 out of it. Then I'll put black sand on top. Get a reflector, then maybe DIY CO2 and ferts if needed.

for DIY CO2 use the nutrafin canaster and other stuff suplied but not there sachets, they suck to be honist, i disolved my sugar in hot water than added it made water 30C and then 1/2 teaspoon of yeast works like a charm.
im getting another soon
