Sooo...

Your gunna put gravel down first (the idea here to increase depth), then Tetra Substrate on top of the gravel then and finally sand (because you have cories).

Do I have that right?

Nah increasing depth was only if I was gonna get Eco Complete. Ditch the gravel idea.

I was advised If I were to get more money to use DIY CO2 and Flourish.

You don't NEED CO2 to grow plants... only if you want ot grow plants QUICKLY do you need CO2 IMO.

Andy

Don't see why not, just use lower lighting is all, otherwise you may indeed get algae developing.

I avoid pressurized CO2 as it is too expensive for me and DIY is a pain in the azz... also I like a more natural approach to keeping plants.. hell, plants in nature don't have CO2 injection.

I have come to think of using CO2 as for those who have the £££, and want rampant growth, perling, high lighting, high maintenance. I may add CO2 later, but instead of going for 30ppm, I may end up aiming for a lot less, just to get my tank ticking over slightly better, say at 8ppm to 10ppm, that would mean me simply adding reflectors to my lights (that I have purposely removed to lower the lighting).

Andy

I'll probably still add reflectors.

When I first got plants in my tank that failed, my plants grew huge, no ferts just gravel and all. I think it failed because I removed the fast growing stem because it was floating around and annoying me.
