thanks for the advice and help

the tank is a topiquarium 55 ... i am not entirely sure of its capacity .. i have tried looking but it requires further research.

Oh, my heavens. That's incredible! I've never heard of or seen anything like it.

Since you don't have any fish in there, why not add a couple drops of bleach in there to see what happens?

personally i think it may have been the bleaches and the sterilizer stuff you cleaned the tank with. All i did when i got my tank was wash in hot water...no chemicals at all. It does to me look like a chemical reaction.

You ay be right from some sort of residue...

I think some vinegar might help in removing it.

I don't think it was the bleach but one of the other myriad of things used in the tank, likely the combination of all that.

Wow looks like someone dumped washing powder in your tank..... Well your speaking with the right guys to get it sorted!

+1 for the clean out and start again, ditch the substrate , get new filter media . No chemicals for cleaning bar vinigar for any hard stains , take it outside and chuck a hosepipe in it for a few hours and alot of elbow grease, when you think it's clean do it all again to be sure.
Anyway of finding the tanks history might be helpful, reptile? Marine ? Stored in a damp shed And subjected to mould growth ?

It does appear to be a chemical reaction, a bad one at that , I would also glove up when you are cleaning it at list until the ' ghostbusters' style mr stay puff gunk is visually gone.

I found the tablets that I think contributed to the white film I had in my small tank

It couldnt have caused it on its own, because I put this in my larger tank without effect, but it definitely was a contributing factor in my small tank as it was only after I added this, that I got the white stuff.

I have done a bit of google research to try and see if there is anything on the internet about it, and couldnt find anything.. but if you have also used this or a similar product when setting up, maybe thats a start..

i already used bleach on the tank last time, i then boiled the contents of the filter, and then also added aquarium disinfectant and whiped the tank out and got rid of all the substrate. and i filled the tank again with water , added the heater back in added the strezeyme and then the other one ... i forget the name of it. anyhow left the tank for two days ... then i put in the tank the ph 7.0 and straight away it went cloy ... and then after 2 hours turned into the slime. then the next day even more slime.

anyway thank you all for your help the tank has been cleaned and it sat there empty as we speak , i will venture out next week to buy a new filter. I wont be using an air stone this time, as an earlier poster said they are not required , so lets hope this time al goes well , and that the fish tank cycle, begins ... organic fish keeping from now on ,,,,, well just de chlorinator

Good idea. Stresszyme and the pH 7.0 stuff is really just a waste of money.

After all of that, if it comes back, then we have to assume it is somthing being introduced to the tank, eg tapwater.

If it is, then you have even more problems than you know. I doubt that it is.
