Deformed fry...?

A friend of mine likes to freeze fish as a form of euthanasia...it drives me mad. Imagine how prolonged that death must be *shudders*

I, personally, boil the kettle and drop the fish straight into boiling water. It may not sound nice, but I can assure you, their death is absolutely instant.

This little guy is still a lot smaller than a lot of the fry I have going at the minute, but it's eating and digging in the gravel and picking in the plants and stuff, so I'm hoping he/she will survive. It's good to know that some deformed fry have survived to a few months

that form of "freezing":

your supposed to freeze the water to almost frosting and then drop them in it. Not freeze the water while the fish is in it!

Please get him/her straight, b/c that is very terrible!

I've only freezed a couple of fry in the past long ago before i knew about about how it was painful for them and although its pretty instant with the method i used(dead within 3seconds) i can't see it being that different from boiling water, personally i find decapitation/bashing the fish's brains out in one quick blow or severing the spinal cord and then destroying the brain is the best method although it is gory.
Oh and daudy_dojo please only post about things you actually know about  deformed fry is not a good thing and you should be ashamed that you are knowingly breeding from fish with deformed fry without doing a thing about it :/

I have a Blue Platy fry with the same deformity. She is about 2 months now with no issues. If she survives another month she will go on the counter of the LFS I work at....as a kinda mascot. I will name her Kink. Lol.

I can't imagine boiling a fry... I mean, I don't want to sound gross, but you could just catch it in the net and then squish it between your fingers, instead of carrying it where-ever and then dumping it in boiling water... dunno, just seems faster. :dunno:

i couldn't squeeze them... I would prolly pass out after doing it :(

i'v got a couple of deformed fry well i think they r there tales seem to go up from there bodies but they seem to be doing fine i like to just give them a chance rather than kill them
