Hi, I'm not sure if this is in the right section.

I had a tank full of tropical fish and over time they have died, alot died unfortunately when we moved house and some over time due to old age
. I have one fish left and have downsized to a smaller tank a good while ago, I havent added anymore fish as we dont really have the time to look after lots anymore.

I dont even know what the fish I have is called  its like a gold fish? Well anyway, over the years the fish has grown and it has grown deformed, its tail kinda of hunches up. It swims fine and eats ok. Just wondering what this could be and what we should do about it? Its about 3 years old.

Sorry i havent given much to go on there

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Is it possible to load a pic up of the sick fish.
Does he look bloated or thin.
In this tummy sunken it.
Is the spine bending.

Theres just 1 fish in there & i'm not sure what type it is sorry

I dont have lead for cam to upload pic i'm sorry. It does look a little bloated & its spine is definately bent, its been like this for a long time and i'm not really sure what to do with it. Sorry i cant give anymore information, i understand if you cant help.

Bent spine can be injury, vitamin deficiency, old age, fish tb, internal parasites.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Is his anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Any worms prutruding from the anus.
Are scales sticking out.
Is the fish belly sunken in.

Sorry for the delay in replying i've been on holiday.
The anus doesnt look enlarged & I dont really see any poo in the tank so its not stringy or anything.
There are no worms but the scales are sticking out a bit. The belly is fine from what i can tell.
I'm thinking the best thing to do maybe to put the poor thing out of his misery as he doesnt look like a well fish at all, he's not looked well for a good while but seems to be getting worse. What do you think is the best thing to do?

Once scales lift last stage of dropsy. Organ failure.
I think agree I would end his misery if he has a bent spine and scales are sticking out.
Bless him.

I would just look into fish tb just to rule it out.

I'll have a look into fish tb first thanks.
Whats the most humane and fast way to put him out of his misery?

Get a jug of cold water and add ice cubes till the water freezing cold. If no ice cubes put the jug in the freezer till a thin sheet of ice forms on the top.
Place the fish in the freezing water. It shouldn't take long for the fish to pass away.
Check gills are not moving. Leave the fish awhile in the freezing water just to make sure its passed away.

OK thanks, i've told hubby he will have to do it cos i cant :( Poor fishy!

hi it would be really good if you could manage to get a pic in case there is something else wrong
just dont want you to put your fish to sleep without comformation there is a problem that warrants it as you dont even know what kind of fish it is yet
regards scot :)

Just found my cam lead, uploading now!

Bless him.
If he goes down hill any further I would think about ending his misery.
Usually you know yourself when I fish needs to be put out of is misery, if you think its suffering.
It's hard to tell in the pic how much he is suffering.

He's started darting around the tank when you go near it, he seems to struggle sometimes and end up on his side too. He's seemed fine apart from the bent spine up until recently but now his eyes are very red & he doesnt seem to be eating anything.

When you say his eyes are red are they blood shot or like pools of blood.
He sounds like he dying now.
