I'm thinking of getting a pair of dwarf gourami for my tank - it's been up and running for 3 months and I've had 6 neon tetras in it for about 8 weeks. So, I was hoping to add a couple more fish next week.

However, the tank is a slightly odd size, being 48cm deep. Is this too deep for dwarf gouramis? I know that (being fish, and therefore able to swim!!) it sounds stupid question, but I've an encycolpaedia of tropical fish which suggests that the water should have a "low water level".

Any help or advice would be great.

Thank you!! Did seem very odd that the depth is something to worry about in a little aquarium!

The book or text u referred to may have been talking about the gouramis natural habitat where they live in shallow water. I have found depth to be no problem in my slightly unusual tank with my pearl gouramis. All is well and they seem to love diving to and from the plants :)
