Hey everyone!

I just had a quick question after reading several topics in the forum. I've recently added about 7 or 8 more(fake) plants and several fake rock formations to my tank. The question I have is with these 'plaster' rock towers than I have. It looks as though they are hollow inside and of course, when I'm done washing them and placing them in my tank, they fill with water. My question is, does the water inside of these hollow rock formations get bad or stagnent eventually? Do I need to empty them occasionally? I've read one of FKNM's threads on the war & peace nano, and I remember it being mentioned that the buddha was initially hollow and was filled up with some sort of filler(can't remember off hand) to prevent the water from going stale. I was just wondering if that's what I had to - fill these formations up w/ cement to prevent it.

Any feedback is definitely appreciated,

yeah i suppose the water would go stagnant so you can either fill it up with filler or empty it every now and then

mabe you could drill largish holes in the back side to allow water to flow through a bit :/ just a thought.

Also, I filled up my tank with a load of artificial stuff...I thought it looked great.......it didn't!. Can't beat the real stuff :good:

Just saying... :good: ......not critisizing :good:

I totally agree doresy, real plants or real rocks for that much definitely look better. I'm still researching into plants & there care and will probably try it once I have a bigger tank. I'm thinking about tanking classes in horticulture & plants eventually - so I have a better understanding. I've had this tank set up for a couple of months now and already regretting not trying real plants. Not sure if the substrate I have will even allow me to grow them. It's just the brown colored assortment of natural rcoks.

I'm going into town in the next couple of days and will probably look for some type of filler for the fake rocks. Thanks again!

I agree with atombomb. But about filling the fake rocks. You could try filling them with sand and then siliconing the holes shut. let the silicone set for 24-48 hours and there ya go

Be sure to use aquarium grade silicone though as it does not contain acetone :good: I agree with everyone and you could end up spending more on your fake rocks/ silicone etc, not to mention trouble than it would just to buy real. Sell your old stuff on ebay. :shifty: Just sold all my fake stuff and almost got as much back for it. :hyper:

go on.....you know you want to!

me on the other hand, i'm obsessed with the fake stuff

all my ornaments are fake, except for the terra cotta pots.

You could up-end your "towers" everytime you do a water change i.e. let the "old" water out and let the "new" water in, maybe. Or just ditch the towers and put in some Elodea, Vallisneria Spiralis, Java Fern and Java Moss :)
