Decor/chemistry Question

Hope this isn't to daft a question.
At the moment the tank has silica sand and some Ocean Rock, I am toying with the idea of changing the Ocean Rock with dark stone or "rainbow cobbles". I understand the ocean rock buffers the pH, if I replace the silica sand with aragonite coral gravel and aragonite coral sand do you think this would balance out ? :unsure:

if it were possible to set up a little bucket/tank as a test, you would be able to find out :good:

basically, you take a bucket, fill it up with tap water, add sand, add the new rock, and test the pH for a while.
