As the title says, I'm thinking of stock for my little 27 litre Aqua40:

Its planted a little better now, but still cycling. Theres 2 Java fern (narrow) on the bogwood, with some moss also. Theres also some Eleocharis ''parvula'' grassy plant to give a bit of ground cover.

I can't help but think I need something else plant wise, but anyway back to the question! Do you think I should go with 3 (or 4?) Pygmy Cories or a similar number of dwarf puffers?

Cheers :)

i like cories so i would go for them

If you really want to go for pigmy cory then if you change that gravel for sand it would be better for them and more pleasing to watch for you. I have an little AquaOne 380 (34ltr) cycling (see sig) with sand and intend to put in p-cory. If you see them 'bulldozing' the sand its great. My LFS have them and I could spend a lot of time watching them!

Cute! I was in an LFS I'd never been to before, they had pygmy cories and dwarf puffers. The puffers just looked soooo cute! They were however chasing the other tank mates around (some sort of tetra I seem to remember, but not ideal tank mates!).

The pygmy cories were all hiding at the back of their own tank, but I'm told this is just cos they're not in ideal conditions.

I actually bought some sand today as I know puffers and cories like sand substrate. Will be adding it in the next few days :)

Ok, cories get most votes so far...

I have pygmy cories and they don't really do that much. They spend most of they're time sat on the bottom, that said they are more active than most catfish, zipping up to the surface at feeding time. But I reckon a dwarf puffer would be a far more interesting and less common thing to keep.

:good:

I've been watching some puffer videos, they really do have character :) I'd be worried about not being able to sex them when they or young though. As its quite a small tank, wouldn't want to end up with 3 males fighting it out.

I assume 3 dwarf puffers would be ok in this tank? (Read they need 2 - 3gal each).

How can you not want one, watching this video!

I'd vote Dwarf Puffers too :hyper: ..... I still get so excited everytime I see them in LFS even though I already have some at home

2 would be max. I think. There's a really good pinned article in the Oddballs section. Really 5 Gallons each is recommended but it really really depends on the individual DPs. The downside about keeping DPs is that you are very limited on tank mates. I keep mine with 5 Amano shrimps without much problem.

Not really no. Need to be kept on their own really
