Ok so i have settled on what stock i want long term.

This is the plan...

Heavily planted with ferns, Anubus and other tough leaved plants (tank in sig)

Pair of Rotkeil Severums
Pair of Bolivian Rams
German Blue Ram
Blue Acara
8-10 x Shoaling fish

What should i go for?

I want barbs because they are brighter but i think they will be a nuisance to the other fish. (Tigers, Odessa or Rosy)

What are flame Tetras like?

I want to try something new, i have kept Bentosi, Rosy, Columbian, Serpae, Black widow Tetras before and want something different.

I want to keep the bioload down so don't want to keep Rainbows, Silver Dollars or Giant Danios.

cardinals or rummynoses? as the blue ram will need higher temps these tetras will fit in nicely

What about some kind of headstander? They would work in a 6 and you could go for spotted, three spot, marbled or the smallest annostomus like mine annostomus ternetzi? These look really good when paired with a school of pencil fish but Im still trying to work out which pencil fish are the biggest....

Gotta be Congo Tetras. Beautiful active fish which get to a decent size.

tiger barbs work well with sevs i used to keep 10 with mine . id change the rams for something else tho as the sevs won appreciate the higher temperature

I keep my tank at 27c (the Blue ram has been good in there for last 2 years).

Congos are a good suggestion, but would rather something small.

Cardinals and Rummys would get eaten!

I'm going to look into Headstanders and Pencil fish, I might have a look at hatchets also, i want something thta is bright coloured really (yellows/oranges etc)

Annostomus Ternetzi honestly once they are in a group of 5 or 6 they are awesome really bright yellow and when they breed on some backgrounds they go almost red/purple :) And the lipstick on them is fantastic.
