I normally use Safe Guard, but was given a bottle of API Stresscoat with Dan's tank. Just having a browse on eBay to buy more and it got me wondering what you lot use? Which is the most cost efficient/concentrated? Which do you feel is best?

Thanks

Kathy

Also - what benefits (or not) do the ones that dechlorinate AND detoxify nitrite/ammonia/nitrate have?

I use API Stress Coat, I have for a couple of years now. I forget why I changed to this one exactly, it was one of those standing in the shop for ages comparing bottles and doses and effects type situations.

I use dechlorinator made for a pond. It's a lot more concentrated but roughly the same price ml for ml. Makes it last a *lot* longer

Thanks all of you! I had a bit of a surf through eBay and managed to find most of the dosages and compare. Bought some Waterlife Haloex as that seemed to have the same benefits as the others but is much more concentrated. :good:

Thanks for all your help!

I use Nutrafin aqua plus simply because it's always done the job and they tend to have it on offer at my LFS most of the time. :)

In my opinion, anything that decholorinates, gets rid of chloramides (or is it cloramines?) and removes heavy metals will do. They are so cheap too, you'll only safe a few bucks over many months, depending on the size of your tanks.

But of course, saving money rocks!

i use tetra pond water safe.

otherwise id need new bottles every week nearly lol.

not sure what brands, but we use pond versions too... they are cheaper and more concentrated :)

Before that (eg before the shed) we used API stress coat.

I think mine is called Chlor-go or something. 10ml for 80 imp gallons and only a tenner for 500ml. Bought some at the start of May and am only just having to get another bottle despite probably double dosing (I'm far too lazy to measure out 6 ml or 8 ml properly) and changing at least 100, sometimes 200 gallons a week.

The bottle reckons it is good for 4,000 imp gallons, so should last nicely. Might be worth dropping CFC a PM, I seem to recall he has an even cheaper one to use and a bottle lasts him the best part of 6 months to a year despite changing about 4 times what I do each week.

I use the Kockney Koi pond dechlorinator, 1ml mixed in 500ml of tankwater will treat 70 litres of fresh tapwater for chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals. Its about £18 for a litre bottle and it has so far lasted me 10 months and ive only used half the bottle.
