Dechlorinator/conditioner Recommendations? Uk

There is a huge variety out & they all seem to do different things. Check this out:
http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/rev-cond.htm

Tetra AquaSafe came out tops for me: does everything and uses a protecterant.
"Complete removal of chlorine, chloramine and ammonia, heavy metals and slime coat protector"
I doubt the 'Ammonia' bit though!

Based on this, (and what I've been using anyway) I use Tetra AquaSafe, but it is expensive (for good reason it would appear). Cheapest place BY HALF is from zooplus.co.uk

I agree i buy from these to : http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/fish/water_a...nditioner/35921 as i get 2 for the price of 1 compared to local suppliers (mind the bottles supplied are in german but doesnt make any differance) 5ml for every 10L is all you need to know and it is extremely safe as you cant od your tank "well within reason". Best to buy enough as you go through plenty with a larger tank.

ALL the ones I looked into used protectorants, but thanks very much for the link. Dosages are different though:

API Stresscoat: 5ml for 40 litres.
Waterlife Haloex: 5ml for 225 litres.
Tetra Aquasafe: 5ml for 10 litres.
King British Safe Guard: 5ml for 45 litres.

Hence me picking Haloex :)

I personally like Seachem Prime. It requires smaller doses than many other brand because it is much more concentrated. It is also good in an emergency because you can overdose to detoxify ammonia and nitrite. :)

I use Seachem Prime too. I have oral syringes that I got free from the pharmacy too, so I can accurately measure the mLs.

Is aquasafe bad then? I have used it for a year and so far no probs. I dont measure the amount i jsut randomly put it in.

It's not bad, it's just very expensive to keep using it in the long run.
Pond dechlorinators effectively do the same thing, just they are more concentrated so they last longer than the well known ones labelled for tropical fish.

I would imagine the pond ones have their downsides too though, for example, the more concentrated, the harder to dose for smaller changes?

It is very hard to actually over-dose on this stuff. I think you are OK to anything up to a factor of 20 times over the stated dose before it starts to even effect the fish....

I can't remember where I heard that from so I can't back that statement up...

Yeah I've read it's safe to overdose - didn't realise it was safe that high though. I suppose though there's a point where overdosing because it's so concentrated would mean it wasn't as economical though? I'm saying that with no idea of how much pond dechlorinator costs *lol*.
