I posted on here a few days ago asking when it would be safe to move my guppies and bristlenose fish over from my Q tank to my cycled 130L. I have got home from work today to find the smallest of my 3 bns dead. I removed him from the tank and i thought he looked a bit white around the head area.

So tonight i have been watching the tank. The 2 remaining bns seem fine, however 2 of my 5 guppies are flicking against the upturned flower pot i have in the tank. They are doing this quite regularly now, but i cannot see any signs of white spot. Water parameters are all good (Ammonia and Nitrite =0, Nitrate 40ppm which is fine for my tap water). I did a 25% water change yesterday and did a gravel vac as hadnt done this for 3 weeks or so. Should i treat for anti-bac or some sort of parasite med? I have treatment for ich, or i could use methylene blue - but that will obviously stain everything under then sun!!!!

Please help!

How long has they cycled 130L been running?
Have you had fish in it before? Or were these the first fish in the tank?
How do their fins look; are they frayed at all?

No, this has occurred all in my Q tank which is a 50L that has been running for 5 months or so. It's full cycled and therefore no problems with the bio load. Fins look fine - no problems there. The flicking must be parasites i'm thinking, as water stats seem fine. Not sure really what to do!

I dont think it is columnaris or ich at the moment. The guppies dont seem to be flicking anymore. I have treated the tank with anti-bac just to try and kill off any nasties if there are any. One of my bns does look like he has lost half of one of his side fins. As i have only just put in anti-bc med i cant add anything for finrot - so i have 2 options. Either leave him be and see what happens, or move him to my 130L tank that has danios in and then treat the whole tank with finrot treatment. What would you do?

Finrot is bacterial.
I don't think I would move him and stress him out to a new tank.

All has been ok since my last post, but i have got home from work today to find 2 guppies that look like they are on the way out. All water parameters seem fine, with zero readings for ammonia and nitrite. I'll describe the conditions of both guppies:

1) The female has looked off colour for the past week. She is silver coloured but for the past week from the middle of her body to her tail has gone white. Now i dont mean just a patch of white like fungus, i mean totally white - what could this be? She is now sitting on the bottom of the tank and looks like she is about to go.

2) The male i got as a replacement on Saturday from my LFS. He has clamped fins and is not as active as my other male. He looks like he is having to use his body to rock sideways in order to get momentum to move forwards. His tail also has a brown edging to it - but this doesnt look like fin rot to me - as i would expect to see white edging.

Does anyone have any ideas? Should i med with finrot, white spot, or go for a methylene blue treatment.

Total inhabitants are 6 guppies and 2 bristlenose plecs.

Best not to add any fish to the deseased tank you will just lose them.
Can you get any pics up of the sick fish.
Carry on with the bacterial med.

Both guppies died. I couldnt get any pics but when i got them out of the tank they had no obvious signs of anything wrong, apart from the male who had a red/brown edging to his tail fin - not sure if this was blood. Have double dosed this morning with anti-bac med as at a real loss as to what is happening.

Guppies are meant to be hardy - so i am puzzled as to what is in the tank and am debating whether to close the Q tank town completely and start again? All fish in the Q tank are from the same LFS and there was nothing in there before - so could this be an inherent problem from the LFS?

Red eging to a guppy tail is septicemia sadly had it with guppys when I first started the hobby.
R.I.P.
