Daz's Pfk Nano Tank Journal

tanks looking really healthy

where did you get your lights from?

A member here (three-fingers) sold me his one as he purchased some Arc-Pods so his extra one was not needed so i have two of the ones that came with the cube. If you wanted them to match i looked everywhere for one and cudn't locate one (my LFS who sell the same style tank have a tottaly different light fitting). Only found ones that will do the job your lookign for on eBay im afraid. Check out Radars journal for the links :)

yep relised after it was the same person lol :good:

I think A. reineckii, though it would do extremely well in that tank, may have too big a leaf shape. I'm pushing it already by adding it to my 8g, but I'm going for color contrast. When you pinch the top off, the resulting leaves are considerably smaller, but it's your decision. You can see how it looks in my 8g journal. In your tank, with the CO2 and lighting you have, you may or may not get red myrio to work. If you consider it, it should be put in the tank when it is mature, as would be the process for most of the more demanding red plants. In addition to proper lighting, CO2 addition, and iron, many of the red stemplants also require the softer water conditions you achieve with a "mature" system, especially if you're not sure you've got the right lighting. I think success for you has been due to the large amount of plants and the addition of egeria densa. Very good job. :good:

A very lovely plant to consider to give you some color other than green, not that I don't like it, I actually do, would be R. rotundifolia. When there is adaquate lighting and good nutrients, the tops of the stems blush a rich salmon pink. Mine blush, but only a light pink. It also has the smaller leaf structure that is IMO better suited to a nano of your size.

Your dwarf puffer must be certainly chuffed to be in a tank like that! Great job! Sorry I missed this journal before.

llj :)

Rotala Rotundifolia would give you a nice midground, provided it is kept trimmed. I have some that is changing from its emergent red form to its more delicate submerged green form, giving a nice, but not overpowering splash of red.

Thanks for the kind comments. Ive taken a look at A. reineckii and quite like it. However as you say might get a bit large. I was thinking of placing this red plant between the two ricca covered stones i have as this may stimulate the colour more to the eye. Thanks for the tips :)
