Can anyone shed some light, i have a canaster filter and have noticed that the return to tank pipe is turning black on the inside, should i worry about this or is it likely to be good bacs?

its good stuff, if it looks like its really getting clogged and reducing the flow then a rinse in water change water would be a good idea.

Thanks i was a little cocerned that it may be harmfull to the little guys.

Usually it is just algae building up due to the light levels in the room. Like Anquilla said, if it starts to reduce your flow, it can be easily cleaned with a bottle brush to get the flows back.
