Sounds like black brush algae, (I have it on all my java fern) grows on the leaves of slow growing plants, usually because you dont have enough flow around the plants, increase the flow rate in the tank, a powerhead is a good way to do this or by another filter or angle your existing filter outflow/spraybar to create more water movement.
