i have bought 4 danios on saturday, they all seem happy in the water and the tank is going through the cycling quite well, according to the aquarium i bought them from. last night i did a water change, and they seem happy swimming about chasing each other, but one danio, the bigger of them all, is hiding, and wont come out, just had a little swim, and went back into hiding, seems a little depressed, i think. also my plants keep floating, i tried to put them in the gravel, but still float. thanks

From what I understand you're fish-in cycling? Do you have any mature media or filter squeezings in the tank or did you just start from scratch?

Do you have your own test kit? If not could you get the fish shop to test your water and give you the exact values of ammonia and nitrites?
We need those to help assess what is up with the danio.

My thought is that it's probably ammonia poisoning. The first sign of ammonia poisoning is the fish start to go quiet (as they're taking in less oxygen), they then start gasping and shortly after they die. So keep your eye out :)

In the mean time with 4 danios in a fish in cycling 54l tank I would expect do be doing at least 50% water changes every single day. Possibly even twice a day, but it's hard to say without any water test results.

Oh n how deep is the gravel? If it's deep enough (1.5"-2") then just keep trying to plant them, make sure you push them right to the bottom of the tank and pull a little mound of gravel around the base. They should hold themselves in place soon.
