What I did:
So I have a 20 gal with 4 adult platies, 3 platy fry, 4 guppies, 4 neon tetras, and 6 cories.
My mom and I went to Petco to buy more neons. Sadly the neons where not on their "Dollar per fish" sale, so we went over the female guppies to take a look. All the yellow or red females looked sick, so we were about to leave when my mom saw a pretty little blue betta. She was so cute and my mom loved her. I was kinda wary to buy her because of the bad rap female bettas get. I was afraid my guppies wouldn't have any fins left.
After some persuasion, advice from my favorite petco employee, and pacing, I decided to get her and two more.
So now Garnet, Sapphire, and Aquamarine are part of the big happy family!
I put in Aqua first because she was sooo tiny. She explored, then hid in my Sword plant.
Sapphire came out next because she was the 2nd biggest. She did the same.
Garnet came out last because she was the biggest. She explored, then was bullied by my male platy.
She hid behind the filter.
I turned all the lights out to let all the fish calm themselves, then a few hours later, I turned them back on. Garnet is still hiding in the back of the tank, and Sapphire and Aqua are exploring further. They had a bit of a spat, but it was solved without nipping.
Now at 10 pm at night they look a bit sleepy, and Sappire still has her stress stripes.
So...did I do it right?
Profiles:
No pics yet, will get some soon.
Aquamarine: Turquiose crowntail female, 1 inch long. FAT! Ovipositor present!
Sapphire: Indigo veiltail female, little over 1 inch long. Stress stripes. Ovipositor present!
Garnet: Red veiltail female, 1 and a half inches long. Has some turqoiuse flecks. Ovipositor present!
Why I'm worried:
Aqua is really fat. I mean REALLY fat. Making the fish top-heavy fat. She is kinda lethargic, but she is new so I guess that is normal?
Sapphire has really pronouced stress stripes and is lethargic also.
Garnet is also lethargic and is bullied quite a bit. No physical hurting yet, just some chasing.
Should I be worried?
Thanks for tolerating my story and worries.
PS: Two platy fry, my male platy, and a guppy will be leaving in about a week.
