Just putting together a 60l nano/quarantine tank as I have 3 leathers in my main system that are fighting and causing me problems as well as more blue mushrooms Than i can shake a stick at.

My question is that being that I'm taking 2 fairly large bits of coral from my main tank that have been there for a few years now both on LR that are well cure and I'm not adding any further LR do I need to worry about the cycling process? The 60l has 40l of my main tank water running through it and 20l fresh SW with some filter media (being added tomorrow) from my existing main system as well as some new media, the only reason I've not added the filter media right now is that it needs acclimatising incredibly slowly to avoid killing off beneficial bacteria etc when I say slow it's going to take hours of drip feeding!

In addition to this the coral going in it needs to be dipped in flat worm exit to avoid carrying any FW over to the new tank but doing this I have no idea if it's going to create a cycle! My method is to use a small 10l tank to dip both bits in FW exit and then to rinse in more sw in a container before acclimatising in the new system, both the 10l tank and the rinse will be done with water from my main system to avoid stressing more than necessary!

Any thoughts would be welcomed as I'm not sure that this is the best way to go about doing things

Hmmmmm, the dip may cause die off. Not of the rock per se, but of the critters that dwell. I'll tell you, though, I've dipped in FW whole pieces of LR and have seen feather dusters and pods within days.

If the rock is cured, I personally wouldn't worry much. Just in case, though, have some extra SW handy in order to perform an emergency water change.

See what others say too. I setup a quarantine with LR as well, dipped, and didn't have problems, but you never know.

Leathers are such a pain in the rear. All my friends who have them ever do is complain about them. Yet, they keep them anyway. LOLOL

Yeah I have a lobophytum and a toadstool and it's all out warfare, got nothing to loose by dipping as the tank they'll go into is empty anyway so my theory is dip in fw exit using main tank water in a small tank then dip in just clean sw from main tank in another container then into a bag of yet more clean sw from main tank that can be acclimatised to new tank which is already running carbon but hopefully it will be pretty clean of FWE by time it enters new tank anyway

Haha, yup with those too, definitely warfare. And when they slime, it just looks nasty. Though I will say, those neon green toadstools are right purty. I am tempted in the 36g, as I've seen clowns host toadstools all the time. Clownfish will host rocks if given half the chance.

I think you have enough of a plan that it'll go alright for you. Sheesh, you're just like me with situations. LOL, no scenario unvisited.

Well fingers crossed FWE used tonight and both blue mushrooms and toadstool were dipped then introduced to new nano hopefully they didnt stress too much! Only time will tell now
