Cycling with or witout fish

I have just set up my new tank (18UK gallon) and would really like to put some fish in it.

I was going to fishless cycle the tank, but still haven't found a source of pure amonia (maybe not looking hard enough).

The tank is up to temperature, but how long if I am going to use fish to cycle the tank should I leave it before adding a couple of fish like danios?

When should I add plants?

For such a small tank i would say 3 days is fine, check ph and all before adding fish.

Cycle with snails

This may be a silly question and feel free to shoot me down, but could I use some filter media from my pond to help the bacteria grow?

I have used Nutrafin Cycle, but I dought this does anything reading other peoples post's, and the LFS wouldn't let me have any of their's!!! so I have gone of the LFS a little now, especially as I have spent loads of money with them on the pond etc!!
