Cycling Tank

Yes indeedie. There is definitely something in the water! And within a little time, that will be gone :good: I'm seriously considering getting my old 75g SW tank back, again. If that's going to happen, it will happen around this upcoming November. wOOt! :fun:

Today's readings, are....

14th June
Day 15 - Nitrites (0.25 )
Ammonia - (4.0)

Ammonia - (4.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - Since putting in the air pump the PH has raised (7.8/8.0)

Even though nothing much has changed, I'm still pleased how things are progressing :D Today I totalled up on three plants and an ornament for the centerpiece, and within a few more days to come, I'm going to be adding more. I still haven't added the bog-wood as yet, because it's still leaking quite a bit of tannins.

Okay, another three days on and the readings are as follows..

19h June
Day 20 - Nitrites (0.25 )
Ammonia - (4.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.8)

Ammonia - (4.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.8)

It'll come along. You could ask around ahd see if anyone has any mature media they could share. Even just the littlest bit will go a long way.

I'll pop-lock & drop-it, to my lfs and scoop up a small portion this afternoon.

Continuing on from the "Dead frozen prawns", fishless Cycle..

22nd June
More mature, media was added from my lfs..
Day 23 - Nitrites (0.25 )
Ammonia - (4.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)

24th June
Day 25 - Nitrites (0.25 )
Ammonia - (4.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)

Are the prawns still in the tank? It's strange that nothing seems to be moving AT ALL right now. How many days have your parameters been the exact same? If it stays that way for another day or so, I'd consider doing a large water change in an effort to kickstart things. This seems strange to me...

I've been considering doing a water change for a few days now, to see how things would roll. My water parameters have been like that, for the best part of two weeks..It's got me scratching my head too :huh: ..The prawns where left in the tank for eight days and replaced, twice.

25th June
Day 26 - Nitrites (0.25 )
Ammonia - (4.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
(60% of the water, was changed. Straight after the test was performed. Also to add, that the bogwood was finally dropped into the tank from soaking in hot water. This persisted to be an ongoing continuing basis of changing the water, three times daily, for three weeks)
/////////////////////
26th June
Day 27 - Nitrites (0 )
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
27th June
Day 28 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)

28th June
Day 29 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
29th June
Day 30 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
30th June
Day 31 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)

If the readings stay as they are within the next few days, I may give it another stir. And see how we go from there.

Not a bad idea... IMO, anytime you don't see any movement at all for about a week, then you might as well do a water change. There has to be a reason that things have stalled and a water change can usually get things moving again.

1st July
Day 32 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
2nd July
Day 33 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (1.0)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
3rd July
Day 34 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (0.25)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)

It's looking promising, oh yes it is! The Ammonia has dropped another digit :good: Give or take, in another three days I will soak out another water change.

Ammonia dropping is a nice sign. We shall see how long it takes for the nitrite to fall.

4th July
Day 35 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (0.25)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
5th July
Day 36 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - (0.25)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)
/////////////////////
6th July
Day 37 - Nitrites (0)
Ammonia - In between (.0 & 0.25)
Nitrate - (5.0)
PH - (7.4)

The Ammonia has dropped slightly, once more. To the point where it's showing near-enough to Zero.

Marching on down the line, in a week or so I will slowly introduce the fish. But only if everything is at (0) For the exception of the "Nitrate" With 40% water changes on a weekly basis that will stay at around 5 to 10. Hopefully! :good:
