HI

Will be setting up my new 600l tank soon and have a quick cycling question.

I will be buying a new fluval fx5 to run the tank but i also have my existing Juwel 260 which i wun with an uprated powerhead internal and an eheim external.

IF i ran the fx5 AND the eheim with mature media on the new tank, would it cycle efficiently, or would it be better just to place the media in the new filter.

Im worried about killing the bacteria as it is a large volume of new water - akin to rinsing your filter media in tap water - a big no no.

thanks

Place the media in your new filter and add a few few hardy fish to make sure it has something to work against and does not die off, then keep an eye on the readings.

When you set up the new tank, use a good dechlorinator before you place the filter in it. That will make it like doing a 100% water change with proper dechlorinator. It will not cause any problem for mature filter media at all.
