Its day the end of day 4, no nitrites yet??

I have the water cooking at 81F with air pumping, i though that there would be some detectable nitrites by now. Ammonia is 5.0

I thought the warm water would be very benificial in speeding up the process.

anybody know why i dont have any bacteria growing yet???

It can take up to a month or two for a tank to cycle so 4 days in is too premature to expect seeing any real nitrite readings yet. Maybe in a week or two.

ive read journals of people who cycled in 10-14 days

ive read journals where people have cycled in 10-14 days when water temp was 80F and adding air.

It can take only that long, but you can't rush it. It will cycle as it wants. However, the fact that you aren't seeing any nitrites yet shouldn't alarm you. They will suddenly show up one day and then comes the even longer wait for them to drop to zero. Mine cycled in right around 14 days and it is worth it. I am a newbie to the fish world and my two little gals are doing great. I still do stats every day and will be adding one more fish this week. Then if all goes well I'll add my last two next week (I have a small tank).

I know it is hard to be patient, but much better than making you fish livie in toxic conditions. Buy a few rocks or some plants while you wait. At least then it is more interesting to look at.

ive already got it decorated, and keep staring at it which i think is almost making it worse
