Cycling My Tank

Hi how long roughly will it take 2 cycle my 100 litre fish tank, im using 9.5% ammonia supplement & nutrafin cycle

There is no set time i'm afraid, just keep testing your water and once your filter can process 5ppm of ammonia in 12 hours and you've had a qualifying week of clear results you should be good to go.

I know you need pure house hold ammonia (you say you are using ammonia suppliment? I'm not familier with this could you explain more?) personally i consider bottled bacteria ultimately useless as the bacteria are long dead before they get to your tank.

As said before, there is no set time. On average it tends to take somewhere between 4-8 weeks, sometimes quicker, sometimes longer.

If you have some mature media this can normally shave about 2-3 weeks off

if the water in the 100 litre is 33% from my 240 litre how long would it take to cycle
(it dosent have to be precise lol)

The water doesnt matter.
Its the filter sponge etc. that has the bacteria, not the water.

Why dont you use mature media if you have another tank?

Lightly squeeze about 25% of your old filter sponge into a bowl then mop it up with the new filter media, place this back in it's filter and that will speed up your cycle considerably.

Roughly? it can be several weeks, the mature media squeezings will help shorten it but be careful not to overdose the ammonia 5ppm and NO more.

I'd advise you read the article on cycling in the beginner section thoroughly and make sure you test your water morning and night (same time each day)

Oh and keep an eye on the water in your existing tank if you do use media from it - do an extra couple of water changes there to be safe.
