Cycling I think I’m close but am I ?

The problem with Prime is that they don't say what's in it. Everything we add to a tank ends up inside the fish, and not knowing what's in Prime, we can't say if adding it routinely to a tank will harm the fish or not. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry.

That’s a fair comment.

If the fish were exposed to the nitrites I have in my tank currently then they’d be dead, so prime is doing something positive.

I’m doing a water change tomorrow, will just continue to monitor but prime at the moment does seem to be a life saver as a water treatment.

Salt is better than Prime for 'treating' nitrite during cycling - though not routinely once the cycle has finished. The chloride half of salt stops nitrite blocking the oxygen receptors on the blood cells.
It is dealt with in the second part of this link
