Cycling Freshwater Tank With Mature Brackish Media

Hey,

Well I got a 66 gallon tank and I was wondering if I can use my brackish tank media to cycle the freshwater tank... A little bit of brackish water on the sponge shouldn't cause any problems right?

The only difference between brackish water and freshwater is the salinity level, right?So unless there are different nitrifying bacteria you should be ok, aslong as there is an ammonia source.

Okay. I think the nitrifying bacteria is the same in low level brackish. Although can anyone tell me for sure?
I can't wait to get it set-up!

If you increase the salinity quickly the bacteria die, so I'm going to say moving the bacteria from brackish to freshwater could kill it also.
