Hi

I have just set up my tank and i understand about the cycle having kept marine and tropical before. But i have never had a change like these in the readings before.

I just want to make sure this is alright.

I am into my 2nd week and the readings are 1st week 2nd week

PH 6.8 8.2
Nitrite 0.1 1.6
Nitrate 0.8 10-15
Ammonia 0.1-0.3 0.1-0.3

I have added some bogwood at week 2.

Are these readings about right for this stage.

There is nitrate there so the bacteria is there its just waiting for them to Multiply enough to get rid of all the ammonia and nitrite

are you using fish in or fish out cycle?

Welcome to the forum neil35.
Your week 2 readings are not too unusual during a fishless cycle for fresh water. Nitrites are being driven up by conversion of ammonia to nitrite and we do not, at least in freshwater, try to convert nitrate to the gaseous state.
