Cucumber

Corgette is Zucchini right?

The only thing I've found with cucumber is that it clouds up the tank quickly, I left it in overnight once and I could barely see through the water in the morning, but the fish love it.

They also love zucchini, which I can leave in overnight and does not make the tank cloudy, but will if it's left for any longer than about 18 hours.

Lettuce I don't bother with as it has next to no nutritional value.

Never thought of feeding them carrot tho!

I usually cut off a chunk, uncooked, skin on and thread it onto a metal BBQ skewer, that weighs it down and makes the leftovers easier to retrieve.

Lettuce is good for herbivorous Characins like silver dollars and Leporinus, dont use Iceburg, Little gem or round lettuces, go for Cos or Rommaine which has a higher nutritional value. Watercress is good too and will even grow if the fish dont eat it all in one go.

Slices of potato are good for plecs, some people recomend par boiling for 5 minutes but i've used it raw with no problems. Remove it from the tank after 12 hours otherwise it turns to mush and gets everywhere.

I've been trying to feed my ottos and bristlenoses blanched/microwaved cucumber, but they could care less about it so far. The platies have nibbled at it somewhat, but haven't really shown much interest.

there is no nutritional value in cucmber, courgett is far better.
sharon

you are quite correct although my fish will eat the soft flesh in the middle of a cucumber it dos'nt do them much good so I give them cougette which they demolish, also I feed green beans and peas

I feed cucumber and fresh or frozen peas (blanched and shelled). The plecos seem to like them and the angels and my pair of blue eyed cichlids even have a go at it.

Rob.............

so when you say about feeding livebearers what exactly do you meen by livebearers?? i feed my bottlenose and hong kong plec cucumber with the skin on and the bottlenose loves it to the point where he is always on it when i put a chunk in the tank and its doing good as its growing realy well....but on the other hand my hong kong plec dont realy seem to be on it half as much as the bottlenose so has anyone got any ideas what i could try giving it???

Anything green.

My loaches being clowns and skunks and the corys almost get out of the tank to thank me for orange. I just par boil for a couple minutes, stab with a stainless steel fork and drop near the front of the tank. The cleaning magnet on a string gets the fork and leftovers out the next day. The leftover is just the peel.

Sometimes it takes them a while to realise it's actually food. I put zucchini in for weeks before anyone started eating it, now they fall on it like a pack of starving savages!

craigybaby37 Livebearers are any fish that have live young, rather than laying eggs. Eg Platty, Molly, Guppy, Swordtail etc.

vic Orange as in the citrus fruit orange? Would never have thought of that, apples yes, but citrus no.

ok fort so just wanted to check.... i hvae knowtised my livebearers do actually have a nibble now and then at the cucumber....but so does my siamese fighter.
