Cuban Cichlids

Anyone had one before? Whats your experiences?

I have never even heard of them.

So I went and looked into them a bit. It sounds as though they are really REALLY aggressive. One blog thread I read said a few 1.5" Cubans had a full grown Jag in a corner all beat to $#@@$^&. I also learnt that the need warmer water then most S.A. Cichlids, they are more prone to bloat (even from stress, not just feeding too much protein) and that they need SUPER clean water. This sounds a lot like having teens in the house other than the clean issue. Hope that helps some what.

Im more after peoples experiences of owning them. I have done plenty of research on them. Ive also read the same post you mentioned, alot said they're not that aggressive compared to other C.A.'s though.

I realize that you are looking for experiences, sorry I have non. I have experienced however that many, especially those who are new do little to no research but do come here to ask questions. I am not saying that that is the impression I got from you, I would just rather be safe then sorry. Good luck with them if you go through with it. Let us know how it goes.

I have a cuban that is still young, approximately  6inch at the moment, he is not as aggressive as my texas of similar size but doesn't stand any messing if threatened. he is in with parachromis motaguense, Cichlasoma bocourti and paratilapia polleni at the moment and all is well, though back up tanks are on the ready just in case this changes. 


by the way, can anyone recommend an ideal cat for this tank please? I don't want  anything stupidly big but not to small as to get eaten or pestered.
