crushed coral

i need to get up my PH and i want to have all my water levels good for when i put my cichlids in. this guy at my lfs said crushed coral would be good for doing this so should i use it?

many people say that the crushed coral will have a better effect on the water if placed in a media bag inside a filter.

as for me, I have some in my tank and in my filter, I also use base rock (used in SW tanks) to buffer my ph and kh

limestone would work wonders also...
