Cruel Platy

Platies don't need to be in groups, not like tetras, as it goes. Like most non-shoaling fish, they quite like some company, but it's not necessary, and certainly not to go into an overstocked tank. If "for all you knew it was bad", then you could, indeed should, have asked the forum. That's what it's for.

You'll have to make your own decision. We have given you advice based on what we believe would be right for the fish. Various people have advised that you are overstocked, and that both species of tetra are unsuitable for a 10gallon tank, but you've rejected that advice out of hand. We're not going to give you bad advice just because it's what you want to hear.

You're very young, as you mature you'll realise that sometimes you have to make hard decisions. Your decision is (A) do the right thing, or (B) do the thing that you want to do. I sympathise with you, it isn't easy. My last suggestion to you is to stop trying to over-analyse this. Stop thinking about the what-if scenarios. Do what you feel is right for you.

I'm not that young, I'm halfway to adulthood.
I will agree though, I get really immature when it comes to the tank being overstocked. Cause then I get stressed out and then my mind decides to be a stubborn five year old having a fit.

This is quite a tough decision for me still, however, and I'm still trying to decide what to do. I want to try all positive solutions first. Thanks.

Rehome all fish. The platies and tetras need a 15 gallon minimum.

Mate, please remember that Bluesand is only 15 years old (according to her profile). You are factually correct, but you could cut her a little slack - it's a big decision for her.

Bluesand, sorry if you felt I was patronising you.

If her mum didn't let her have a 20 gallon I find it unlikely that she will buy a new tank for her. Therefore, rehoming is the only option. A little slack? Am confused...

I felt your reply was a tad on the blunt side.

I'm just tired of people telling me what to do with my 10gal. Yes, I know what to do. No, I have not made a decision yet.

Anyways, update on what this topic was SUPPOSED to be about. Whoa seems to be leaving Squee alone now, I think they just had to figure things out and that 'twas all.

Advise what is right is more to the point.

Advice:

Noun

  1. Guidance or recommendations concerning prudent future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative.
  2. Information; news.

Yes, a lot of you were giving good advice, but some of you just said to sell all my fish away, I don't see how this could be 'guidance' or a 'recommendation'. It's more telling me what to do, there is quite a different between the two, ex:

Telling me what to do:
Give away all your fish you shouldn't be a fish keeper blah blah blah.

Advice:
You should look into maybe re-homing your fish, they might be happy now but think about how much happier they will be in a bigger home! c:

I respond well to friendliness. Now, can we stop all these shenanigans?

I would be only too happy to avoid an argument.
We did not tell you not to keep fish and I have already had my wrist slapped but TLM for being too blunt. :)

With this post, I believe this thread has run its course.  I'm glad that Whoa and Squee are getting along now.
