I've had my HUGE cream colored betta for nearly 2 years now and ever since I bought him he had these red splotchy fins. They have never went away and I have never ever had him catch any diseases. He is one of my strongest. What causes these red splotches? They don't seem to effect him at all,he's in a one gallon I change his water once or twice a week depending on if i feed bloodworms-they yuck up the water bad-I add salt and he is active and happy. Can these red splotchy fins be treated with anything or is he just colored that way?

I'm going to say it's just his coloring. You say you've had him for quite awhile and he's not ill so why bother trying to treat it

I have a cream male and hehas dots of red here and there on him, nothing to worry about, just pigmentation

I just wanted to be sure I saw your pics of your creamy bettas and they are beautiful,my Whitie's fins didn't look anything like that, made me worry.

lol, the second cream betta that I posted is my red splotchy guy...they're hard to notice in the pics. The freakiest part about him...his flare gills are reddish when he flares, I thought he was sickly when I first got him  But it's been around 6 months and he's fine :dunno:

Don't worry, I'm sure your litte guy is fine

Hi HeatherSweetness :)

I can think of two reasons for a fish to have red splotchy patches on its fins.

The first is fin rot, but if it were this condition, it would have gotten MUCH worse by now. So rule this out.

The second is injury to the fins. One of the problems that can happen with uncycled tanks is that every time a person nets a fish to clean the tank there is a risk of injury to it. Fins can easily be bent or broken. This would cause a red, blotchy appearance.

If injury is the case, the fins would heal in a few days time. A new injury would probably be in a different place and would look a bit different because of this.

If neither of these are the problem, it is probably just the natural coloring of that particular fish. :D

A picture would help. Otherwise, ruling out disease, he could be a 'marble' betta. The 'marble color' bettas change their pattern as they grow older. You could take a picture of him and one year later he would have a totally different pattern.

I have a brand new digicam on the way as soon as I get it I'll post a pic that is actually visible. :) Should be here tomorrow.
