so i went into the fish shop the other day and i saw a son and dad both reasonjable age asking for one of the big biorbs so they got one down and then the son and dad asked to have some fish to put in it any way the shop said yes and got them like 7 fancy tailed goldfish to go in one of the big biorbs not sure on capicity just the big ones is it me or should the tank be cycled first as it was brand new in box and isnt that way over stocked.

yet again another stupid mistake by an lfs, of course it should have been cycled first, and even the largest biorb (60L) isnt suitable for 7 goldfish,a 4ft tank maybe!
you should have pulled the son to one side and recomended this site , we would have sorted him out :D

its a shame but it happens, not much you an do about it now tho :(

i no but he was like 22 and ime only 14 so i think my comment would go unoticed

Don't be too sure Bae. At 22 people don't already know everything although at 18 they often think that they do. By 22 some of them are starting to discover they can learn from anyone.

Some LFS employees get a little upset at having others give advice. It's always best if you can get them alone away from the employee first like shelaqh suggested. I corrected a Petsmart employee once when she told someone that all she had to do was put a betta in a vase with some plants and they would eat the roots thus they never needed to be fed. When I mentioned that bettas didn't eat roots or plants, she got huffy and said she had several of them in vases and they all ate the roots. And the bad part about this PS was that the employee was the fish dept. manager.

i only today had a word with the owner of a shop because they have bettas in tanks with gouramis and tetras, as soon as i pointed that out, the guy said "yes my boss told me that was ok but i beg too differ" he went to the dry goods section picked up a few dividers, and the empty 4 foot tank in the shop now has 4 bettas in it (divided) normally no one will listen to me, i saw the same shop once selling people goldfish to a bloke whom had a 17 litre tank
