I'm wondering if there's any way of achieving soft water with high pH, without adding artificial/manufactured chemicals.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance :)

I'm off the old school & don't consider, (let alone play around with), water chemicals (unless I'm trying to breed a specific hard to breed specimen) but do not see any other way than to add any artificial/manufactured chemicals..... I know peat moss and tree bark will adjust my softness and pH to some extent, but not sure about the high pH and low softness issue..... Again just bumpin this for you, as I'm sure some current expert online scientist will be able to help you.

Thanks Ludwig, I appreciate the bump and agree with your sentiments regarding artificial chemicals.

is that even possible? why do you want soft water with high pH and what do you consider high pH.

Yes, it's possible, and water companies achieve it (in the UK, at least) by adding sodium hydroxide (or similar). This doesn't last once in the aquarium, though.

Very specific types of inverts originate in naturally occurring soft water (1-3 dKH) with high pH (8+).....and I'm an invert fan, so thought I'd ask if anyone knew how to replicate it.
