Cover Needed But Not Condensation Tray

Jambo has really pushed his luck big time now, he jumped out of the tank and landed in the middle of the lounge,along with a full pot of food i was holding,its a good job i didnt have time to think as he would still be there, i just picked him up and chuked him back in,he scared the bloody life out of me-swine!!

what can i put over the tank to stop him doing this, but i hate condensation trays, maybe a peice of fencing of somesort-you know that plstic stuff??

im shaking like mad and i have to put a stop to his antics now,before he gets hurt

Whats the top of the tank like Shelagh, can you post a pic showing any ledges etc which would help us identify something suitable?

What condensation trays don't you like, the cheapo plastic ones? You could just get a clear sheet of perspex which would be more attractive and sturdier. Or like you say something like chicken wire but get the plastic coated stuff so it's not sharp or he could cut himself if he jumps up.

you could see if you can get a sheet of eggcrate, that should keep him in. am thinking of doing something similar on my tank when i go for a luminaire, but haven't had the chance to find the stuff to do it yet!

the braces are 10 inches in on either end and theres a 2 inch sill on front and back

whats egg crating?

like butter wouldnt melt!!!!!

so he just jumped out when you had the hood open to do feeding/maintenance?

the problem being anything that you use to cover you'll need to lift up to get into the tank so you're still gonna have that window of opportunity for him.

yes i just opened the hood to feed him, hes kinda getting used to trying to escape now, your right he will just carry on doing it now- oh flipping eck!! maybe then if i cover one half and get a tank divider so that i can keep him in one side while i clean the tank ( like a puppy crate), i dont need to open the lid completley to feed him, well as you see by the first pic, hes lying in wait for goodness sake!there are some floating plants in here which i thought may discourage him, but he just eats them

ill just nip up to the lfs, see if i can see anything that may be of any help at all

Maybe a condensation tray would do as a temporary measure?Until you find something suitable(why do you not like them?).

Have a wander round your local B&Q(or equivalent).You never know what you'd spot that'd be suitable.

Have you seen Finding Nemo....the fish in the dentists?? Maybe Jambo has a masterplan !!!!

yeah i was just gonna suggest a divider and a cover for half the tank so you can shut him off when you need to do maintenance. for feeding something like chicken wire over the top would work though.

just got back hes got nothing in there suitable,so ill go over to B and Q this evening, i dunno why i dont like the trays i just dont lol

but what i did see is the same lutino oscar that has been sitting there for a week now ( just a tad smaller than Jambo and all my big fish in my sig are going tonight )hmmmmmm
