first, my frind has a mating pair or convicts, 2 rainbow sharks, and a pleco in a 29 gallon. he wants to know if it would be safe to put a small peice of holy rock... would it kill the sharks or no?

second, i got a 10 gallon, ad want to start up a small african tank, leading up to my 55 when i get it set up. the tank came with some mediumish blue gravel. would that look good with a piece of holy rock and a few fish? i didnt think so, but i havent really seen it put together. i have the rock and gravel, but i havent seen them together. the reason im asking cuz i know they like diging. all they have at walmart is kinda bigger than what i have. and when i had 3 africans in my 33 gallon, they had the same size rocks as the blue one, and they were fine. so i dunno if i shouls use the blue ones, or get the kinda bigger white ones so itll look better with the rock??

The 'rock test' is used to determine whether a rock is inert... pour some vinegar on it. If it fizzes, it's not suitable for use in an aquarium. If the vinegar has no effect on it, it will be safe if washed thoroughly.

The only african cichlids suitable for a ten gallon tank are the Neolamprologus species, etc. They are tiny shell dwellers, less belligerent and far smaller than most cichlids. An african community in a ten gallon is seriously impossible. You'd be better off setting the tank up for shell dwellers (which CANNOT be kept with other africans, they are totally different in requirements) and waiting until the 55 is set up before you go for 'normal' African cichlids. Seriously, you would be flamed beyond belief for even putting aulonocara (peacocks) in a ten gallon.

no no. the rocks are safe. we bought em from a local dude everyone knows, and they all say his rocks are redy to go in right away if wanted, but could use a wash incase. but i was asking cuz of the ph or hardness or whatever it raises... i didnt know if itd be good enough for those fish or not?

and ok, ill look into those
