Could You Recommend Fish To Go With My..

at the moment i have a 125ltr tank 4' x 12"x16" it has a sand substrate and well planted with live plants few bits of bog wood in there and in there i have

9- neon tetra
1-ram chiclid
5-platys
2- dwarf cockatoo cichlid (1 male 1 female)

just after somthing you dont offten see and maybe 1 or two types that are avarage size so about 4-5inch long, i did have elephate noses in the tank at one point which is the size i would like some of the fish to be as the main eye catcher as such but they had to go as they stressed all the other fish out and i had white spot but are all ok now the tank has been set up for around 4 months now and the water is spot on any ideas would be brilliant many thanks tom

I keep a betta in about the same crowd as that,.


What about another schooling fish?


I think Zebra Danios would be great in that tank.

I wouldnt put a betta in with rams and apistos.

Have to say that tank is a really good tank for dwarf cichlids due to the long length which is fantastic I would think that it would be a good idea to add an other female to the apistos as a trio works better than a pair as the male can spread his seed faster which cuts down his aggression. Have to add its a pretty good mix of fish you have there so well done!

As for new tank mates how about some kind of panchax? The golds get to about 10cm for males, females are a bit smaller and need to be kept 1 male 2 female they are surface dwellers and are long and bright gold. You also get a few different varieties but the golds are the most common but the reds are becoming a bit more frequent now and actually stay a bit smaller.

Some nice headstanders would look good, I always suggest these because they are often over looked but are really interesting and pretty unique. The ones best for your tank would be the spotted headstanders which are silver with small black dots all over get to about 8 cm and do well in trios again but can be kept singularly. I always think that headstanders and pencilfish make a good combo! So you could consider mixing a school of pencil fish in there as well like the golden pencil fish or coral pencil fish.

good il tke your advice and get another female apistos fr cichlids these and rams seem pretty calm which is good is there any other members of the cichlid family which are like this and calm/not aggressive?
now panchax sound like a good idea im only a begginer on fish so hoe you dont shoot me down in flames lol but am i right in saying you are on about these as the colour o these are just what im after for something to catch your eye (coral salt water looking)

also what about paradise fish these look really nice but dont know about if there calm or agressive etc?

With a trio of apistos and a ram I would say you are pretty much at your limit in a 3 foot tank ...... lol ignore that just realised its a 4 foot 30g. Right yeah that gives you the option of perhaps an other dwarf cichlid, hmmm... what type of rams are they? If they are bolivivian I would up them into a group of 4. Or if your not too attatched to the ram you could consider swaping him out and getting a group of cupid cichlids or an other trio of a different kind of apisto in a trio like Agazizi fire red or some thing?

Panchax are a type of killifish which is what those pictures are but those ones arnt suitable for community tanks these are the ones I was on about http/www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Aplocheilus&species=lineatus&id=341 but have a google for more pics of them golden wonder killi as those arnt the best pics but good profile.

Paradise fish are nice but can be aggressive, I wouldnt add them into a tank now I would probably start with them as a starting point if you see what I mean and stock around them rather than add them to something. So I would skip them maybe but, you could consider small gourami like honey or orange thick lipped. But that would then interfere with how many cichlids you can have lol ...... yeah its never easy

You could try a couple of Elliots cichlids (Thorichthys ellioti) i got some of these recently and have really fallen in love with them

bosami rainbows are nice fish...they dont get overley large.
tiger barbs are ok fish for a large community tank.
killifishes are awsome fish and very attractive eye catchers.
